CATCH UP INFORMATION
The term ‘Catch-up’ was previously used as the umbrella term for the strategies used by secondary schools to support Y6 children arriving to secondary school in need of extra support. Since the COVID pandemic and subsequent lockdowns, this term has widened to focus on the strategies employed by schools to support children in their bid to recover lost learning time. The KGA ‘recovery curriculum’, which is designed to help pupils recover lost learning time and therefore ‘catch -up’ is based on three core strategies. Firstly, all subject areas have carefully re-sequenced their curriculum planning to address any lost learning. Secondly, all subject areas use knowledge organisers (documents which organise all the most vital, useful and powerful knowledge on a single page) to prioritise the most important components of the curriculum. They employ a variety of retrieval strategies to support memory recall and have placed a great emphasis on pupils being able to recall the most powerful knowledge within their subjects. Finally, to support Y11, we have extended the school day until 4PM to enrich and extend their learning experience and better prepare them for the challenges of 2021-2022.
